Dec 25, 1988
The first Nintendo game console our family bought was the Nintendo Power Set bundle that was released in 1988. The bundle came with the NES, an NES Zapper, two Nintendo Entertainment System controllers, a Power Pad, and the Super Mario Bros. Plus Duck Hunt + World Class Track Meet compilation cartridge.
This was a major life changing moment for me and my sisters! We could finally enjoy playing Super Mario Brothers from the comfort of our home. We soon discovered other amazing NES games like Contra, Zelda, Metroid and ExciteBike.
Game Until You Drop
The NES was also the first game console that I remember staying up and playing all night with a friend to beat a video game title. As I recall, the first game I pulled an all nighter for was Bionic Commando.
Oh man, those were the days! If you wanted to read through a relevant strategy guide, you needed access to an issue of a Nintendo Power or EGM magazine.
There was no option to download or read a free GameFAQ or full walk-through. This meant that every single new level reached and every game completed felt like a real accomplishment! 😀
Those really were the days. 👍
